In order for your bird to be healthy, you must keep at least a basic level of hygiene in its environment:

-      clean feeders

-      clean the cage floor regularly

-      clean all dried food and droppings from the perches and branches

-      clean toys as soon as they are dirty

-      throw out all food that was in contact with droppings

The cage and its contents will have to be periodically disinfected. While doing this, keep the birds out of sight especially if cleaning products such as chlorine are used.

It is also recommended to thoroughly clean the toys that you are bringing in from the store. If you have played with animals at the pet shop, make sure you wash your hands and change clothes before you touch your parrot.
